Electrical Engineer, Power Systems (Generation), R&D

Engineer the electrical side of behind-the-meter generation — collection, interconnection and integration with the data center campus.

Austin, TX · New York, NY · San Francisco, CA · Seattle, WA Power & Generation $169,000 – $208,000 + equity Permanent

About the role

Our client acquires power as aggressively as it builds compute, developing fast-build behind-the-meter generation and storage to energize AI data centers years ahead of the grid queue.

You'll design the electrical balance of plant and run the studies that make islanded and grid-parallel operation work as one controllable campus system.

What you'll do

  • Engineer the electrical side of behind-the-meter generation: collection, interconnection and integration with the data center.
  • Design the electrical balance of plant — generator connections, transformers and switchgear for fast-build plants.
  • Run the studies for islanded and grid-parallel operation: stability, grounding and protection coordination.
  • Integrate storage and generation electrically into one controllable campus system.
  • Carry plant designs through commissioning and energization.

What we're looking for

  • You've engineered electrical systems for power generation, microgrids or utility-scale storage.
  • You've designed generator interconnections and the studies behind them.
  • You understand islanded operation and what it does to protection and stability.
  • You've integrated inverter-based resources with rotating machines.
  • You've taken plant designs through commissioning.

Nice to have

  • Microgrid controls experience.
  • Grid codes and interconnection standards; PSCAD or PSSE.
  • BESS electrical design.
