Lead Electrical Engineer, Capacity Delivery

Own electrical engineering across a multi-gigawatt AI data center portfolio — from reference design through to energization on live builds.

Austin, TX · New York, NY · San Francisco, CA · Seattle, WA Hyperscale AI $237,000 – $300,000 + equity Permanent

About the role

Our client is a fast-scaling developer and operator of AI compute infrastructure, acquiring power, designing and building data centers, and operating them at gigawatt scale. Their delivery organisation moves at an unusually high tempo, with engineering authority held in-house rather than delegated to consultants.

As Lead Electrical Engineer, Capacity Delivery, you will hold owner-of-record rigour across the electrical scope for every build in the portfolio, making field calls at build speed and owning energization readiness site by site.

What you'll do

  • Own electrical engineering across the portfolio: distribution from utility interface to rack, reference design through to energization.
  • Set and evolve the electrical reference design — switchgear lineups, UPS topology and busway.
  • Make field electrical calls at build speed, balancing schedule pressure against safety and quality.
  • Own energization readiness and sequencing site by site with utilities and AHJs.
  • Review consultant studies — short circuit, coordination and arc flash — critically rather than ceremonially.
  • Feed as-built learnings back into the reference design so each subsequent build is faster and cleaner.

What we're looking for

  • You've led electrical engineering for data center or heavy industrial build programs.
  • You review protection and coordination studies and find the errors in them.
  • You've owned energization sequences with utilities and authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Your field decisions balance speed and safety without trading either away.
  • You manage external design firms with technical authority, not just contract terms.

Nice to have

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Medium- and high-voltage distribution experience.
  • Behind-the-meter generation and utility interconnection exposure.
